  7. I think honestly you haven’t said even ONE way to make money by opening your source. There are just a few success stories and was some particular software, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to open the source to earn money.

    My Opinion

  8. Hi Tepi,
    Thanks for your feedback !

I think you know that essence of the OPEN SOURCE is “Human Knowledge Belong To This World”.
Most of the Open Source Companies like Ubuntu, Source forge and other are working on this model. Moreover there are thousands of startups working on opensource model where they disclose the sources and offer the paid services.
If wordpress is not free then how come it came up with such a beautiful products ? Where we blog ? How we earn through blog ?

Open Source is like the Cream from the milk, you won’t get it unless and until you shake it.
Will wait for your feedback !

  9. Great points here. I’ll share it with peeps down here in East Africa. I think OSS will be a key income earner in the next few years. I’m looking to do a vTiger CRM installation for a friend’s company. I notice their server is Windows 2003 running mDeamon mail server. I think Ubuntu or CentOS with Exim as the MTA might be a better, cheaper, safter alternative.
Also, take a peek at SQL-Ledger, OpenERP and WebERP. I see huge potential in implementing these in this market. I’m a big fan of Intranets. The browser is the universal GUI.

Yes, people donate and majority of developers earn from custom projects.
A classic example is wordpress theme and plugin developers, joomla developers.

Loving you mascot. You should probably consider selling t-shirts with him btw. I would buy it.

BTW using this is Thesis right?

  17. There are many ways to ear money, but all of them are not too easy.

  18. People working in BIG open-source projects like Red Hat,Nowell, etc are capable of cashing some good money.Others should hold a backup job in closed source and to play their part in opensource. The points covered here benefits the company not an individual. But then, there are few devs who make some good money thru open-source too.
