[important] Before buying a domain
In case you are confused about the word DNS :
DNS usually stands for Domain Name System and refers to how computers find other computers on the Internet Network. Unique IP addresses are associated with each computer on the Internet Network. These IP addresses are like house numbers on a street. DNS is the system that make it possible for other computers to find your computer.
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical naming system for computers, services, or any resource participating in the Internet. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participants. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical (binary) identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices world-wide – Source Wikipedia
Their are many domain services in the market now a day’s. People often tends to buy cheaper domain but they forget the main feature DNS management
DNS management is a tool given by registrar of domain to change the name servers of your domains .Without DNS management you can’t change your name server.
- Name server- is like ns457.hosgator.com , ns458.hostgator.com etc.
- This points your domain to the server where ever you wanna host your site.

Imagine the situation if your server is damaged or expires, you want to change your site to another server but you doesn’t have DNS management tool. In case you don’t have any DNS MANAGEMENT then you need to drop mails to your registrar for manual change of the DNS. Generally this process doesn’t takes much time but it may take 1 hours to few days and you may trap into the loop of the heavy downtime. In the end you have to wait for the domain registrar to change your simple DNS.
Some more features of the DNS Management are as follows:
- In simple words web-Based DNS Management tools allows you to use name servers located at yourdomain.com
- CNAME – Canonical records to change CNAME entries
- MX – Mail Server records
- NS – Name Server Records
Note:-Honeytechblog use the hostgator servers as my primary hosting and will recommend it for all. If you want to know something else regarding this topic feel free to bother me in comments.

Hi honey!
I would like to ask about hosting a wordpress blog on local host. After installing a webserver, say IIS or Apache , then installing mySQL and PHP. What benefits does such an installation give. Currently my blog is hosted at moved.in, I mean thats where I got a web space!
Incase you can elaborate on hosting wordpress on local host and what does that exactly mean and help me as in, I would be thankful to you.
Thanks in advance

http://www.honeytechblog.com/installing-wordpress-in-lan/
your domain is subdomain of moved.in but i will prefer u must hv domain like yourname.com.
i’m currently working on the project that how to provide cheapest professional “domains+webspace”.
Coz now a days in hosting market no-one think about student.
i myself is a student so my friend w8 2 week
i will sure come up with the best solution.
secondly if you switch to prof domain the project on which i’m working will provide you 1000+ mail id’s(name@yourdomain.com) each of 2gb space(this is coz of collaboration with google what we call gmail).
Human Knowledge belongs to the World & i’m just a particle of it.

@honey: First of all, thanks for helping me up for the Ubuntu-BSNL thing and mounting of ntfs drives over Ubuntu. I shall try it and report you the result!
The other thing is, I am pretty much aware of the fact that moved.in provides subdomains only on invitations by existing members. But it has a massive 150 Mb storage and 5GB bandwidth/month with no adds !
Secondly, I am aware of the process and method to set up wordpress as a local host but I would like to know that incase I host the wordpress blog on my windows, how shall I make it accessible to the web, i mean putting it over internet ?
Moreover, what are the benefits of using my own localhost for wordpress?

There is no static IP in BSNL’s broadband connection for home users!
And yes I know, a local system can’t be always powered on like the web servers. Be it moved.in or any other web host! Thanx for ur help, anyways!
I have successfully connected to web through Ubuntu and BSNL’s broadband.
I still need to dirty my hands with mounting on drives over this.
One more thing. I am unable to play mp3, etc over Ubuntu. why is it so ? Which shall be the best player for all Audio/ Video formats in case of Linux ?

u are not feeling the disadvantages that i’m feeling like..
>Dns tools
>dot net support
>mail id’s (like mine admin@ubuntustore.com)

To install most of the codecs that aren’t installed by default (for Rhythmbox, totem and other gstreamer-based apps), install the “gstreamer0.8-plugins” package with synaptic or apt-get. If you just want mp3 playback, the package is called “gstreamer0.8-mad”, but it gets pulled in as a dependency of the main plugins package
