Hulu Gets 1 Billion Plus Monthly Streams

It is clear with the recent hype from YouTube that people needs online video, it also claims to get 1 million subscription every day. In addition, now Hulu, another impressive video sharing site is proving that professional content to audience online is as important as TV. These two are considered to be the biggest video sharing sites in US. While YouTube is striving hard to make money, Hulu is clear about charging its users when required for offered content. That makes the site profitable, even if there only few out there willing to pay.

Usatoday got hold of Hulu CEO Jason Kilar for an interview, which brought out some interesting numbers and few other future plans for Hulu. One thing that brings huge success to the site is latest numbers of viewership. CEO says, in December, I billion plus videos were streamed, which is a great milestone.

On the Web, Hulu currently offers just four episodes of specific TV shows for free viewing, such as Lost,The Bachelor and The Simpsons. McQuivey believes Hulu will eventually settle on two pricing tiers: $4.99 for an ad-free Hulu, or $14.99 monthly for complete seasons of shows and back catalog.

“When Hulu launched, most people believed that only short clips would be viewed online,” he says. Hulu’s billion-video milestone validates the idea that people will watch long-form programming online, he says.

On the other hand, Kilar also adds that a free version of the site would always be available, but that premium content or subscriptions are definitely coming and soon, though he didn’t give an actual time-frame.
