Metering The Mobile Activity With Informate Mobile Intelligence
The total no of mobile subscribers in the world is over 4 billion but can we predict what an average GPRS enabled mobile user usually do with his phone, how much time he spend on Music, Games ,Chats or in calling?
If we talk about automatic time tracking tools on computer then rescuetime is an excellent tool that help us in metering our time spend on web but our point of discussion is How to metering the mobile activity?

Informate Mobile Intelligence brings a specialized version of mobile analytics and supplying detail-rich consumer intelligence for the mobile phone industry. It is basically a division of the market research and analytics firm Cross-Tab. With mobile intelligence they are planning to deliver Mobile Market Intelligence based on Actual mobile usage data.
How Actually Informate Metrics Works
Step 1: Respondents are recruited using purposive sampling as per the quota plan.
Step2: Quota on tele circle (representative cities within each circle) age range,gender spread, handset price range & available service operator.
Step3: On successful registration & installation of the SmartMeter, his/her profile data is collected.
Step4: The meter starts tracking the usage and Actual usage data of every panelist is captured and is transferred through GPRS to the server, on a daily basis.
Step5: Captured actual usage of applications/ features etc., are analyzed at the aggregate level to understand behavior and track usage patterns

Informate Smartmeter deliver the classified reports of the data stored on the server

Note: On Nov 05,2009, i was invite in a press conference on the launch of Informate Mobile Metrics Report and here are few highlights.
Kedar Sohoni, President, Informate Mobile Intelligence said that
There are now some 4 billion mobile phones in the world – four times as many as there are PC’s. The global revenue potential for these devices is significant: some $4.5 bn in advertising revenues and $25 bn in applications sales by 2013. Those who stand to benefit from these revenues include advertisers, applications developers, handset brands and carriers
The report shows that Google remains the top website accessed on the mobile web in terms of unique users followed by Gmail, Yahoo, Orkut and Getjar with close to 40 minutes spent on browsing every day, while the top applications in terms of reach were Real Player, Visual Radio, Voice Recorder and Snake.
Snip of the report :
- Time spent on Calling is comparatively high but shows downward trend.
- On an average 25-30 minutes (per day) of active time is spent on voice calls.
- Almost 15-20 minutes (per day) of the active time is spent on Messaging.
- Time spent on chat shows upward trend.
- On an average 40-45 minutes (per day) is spent on Entertainment activity.
- Time spent on Multimedia activities is almost 5 times as compared to time spent on Games.
- Media player & Gallery constitute major portion of the Multimedia time. It also shows upward trend month on month.
