Standford University Extends Its Partnership With Google Books
Of late there has been many serious issues with regards to Google books, who also had to apologize for scanning copyrighted Chinese books. Yet there are organizations who truly understand the importance and value of Google books. One such organization, Stanford University is extending its partnership to help it out. The two giants are now announcing that they are extending their original partnership to let Google access to the millions of titles the Stanford Library hold. The University also restates its support for the revised settlement with authors and publishers that is set for a final court hearing later this month.
Tamar Fruchtman, Senior Corporate Counsel wrote -
Today, Stanford University announced that it has expanded our original partnership to take advantage of our settlement agreement to make millions of works from its library collection accessible to readers, researchers, and book lovers across the United States. That means that if the settlement agreement is approved by the court, anyone in the US will be able to find, preview and buy online access to books from Stanford’s library. Stanford joins the University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Texas, who also expanded their original partnerships with Google.
It is certainly a great deal for Google as Stanford Library is housed with 1.7 million books till date and also plan to have several more millions scanned in the future. This is going to make books much easier to reach!
