Google Chrome extension for checking IP

As per July 24 Google avail the extension features only on developers and beta versions of Google Chrome. In my previous article we launch the Google Chrome Bookmarklet for instant IP checking which can be accessed on any latest version of Google Chrome with the help of bookmarks bar. In this post we are launching the extension (*.crx) of What is my IP. Before installing any extension you need to read the following documentations.

How to install extensions for Google Chrome

You need to have Google Chrome developer version installed in your system.
Right-click the Chrome icon on your desktop and choose Properties then Go to Shortcuts and add the –enable-extensions in the end. (for example C:\Users\honey\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe –enable-extensions ) – Resource available on Chromium Developer Documentation
Restart / Launch the Google Chrome

How to install What is my IP extension on Google Chrome

Install What is my IP (856)
- - Extension: myip.crx
  - File size:1.28 KB
  - Last Build: July 23, 2009
  - Requirement: At least Google Chrome Developer Version 3.0.189.0 ( Current Version on July 23 3.0.195.1 )
When you click on the extension file (myip.crx) it will popup a message with “Extension error” in case you forget to add –enable-extensions in the Chrome shortcut icon (described in initial steps)
Restart your chrome

What is my IP is a Google Chrome Bookmarklet plugin for the instant checking of the IP address of the network.

What is Ip address? An IP address (Internet Protocol Address) is a logical address of a network adapter. The IP address is unique and identifies computers on a network. An IP address can be private, for use on a LAN, or public, for use on the Internet or other WAN. Via Wikipedia

How to install Google Chrome Bookmarklet plugin?

It is very simple and fast to have this option under your bookmark menus. First of all you need to cross check that your Google Chrome browser always shows the Bookmarks bar. In order to enable it you need to go TOOL menu on the right, click menu: Tools -> Always show bookmarks bar. The below image describe it best.

You can install the What is my IP by any of two options:

1.Drag and drop What is my IP in your bookmarks bar

2.Go to bookmarks bar, Right click and add a page like below image describes

The above options will bring a bookmarks manager and you can enter the following details into it Name and URL fields

Name : What is my IP

URL:

So, you can easily check the IP on a single click over the What is my IP bookmark.

Gmail is recently experiencing outage and account inaccessibility. Is happens from time to time and Google has not yet addressed it until now. I just updated Google Chrome to the latest version, RC 1 i.e. non-

Update: Google is continuously working on project “chrome” and come up with some new features. I wish to remove this point after extensions updates in the Chrome final release. If you are confused about the heading (How to unchrome your Google Chrome) and have questions that what is unchrome? then you need to think about the Google latest release “Chrome “.In my last post on Google chrome i tell you about the features behind Google Chrome and why google is building a browser but do you know: Each Google Chrome installation contains a unique ID that allowing identifying its users who install it on their system.

For those who don’t know about Chrome

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a best use of system memory and as a result of minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.

So if you don’t want to get chromed and wants to unchromed ( i.e don’t want to get identify by the google chrome) then here is an application named UnChrome. This application was designed to remove the unique ID that allowing identifying of your sytem.

How It works

It replaces your unique ID with Null values so that your browser cannot be identified any longer. The functionality of Google Chrome is not influenced by this. You only need to apply UnChrome only once.

Close the Google Chrome
Download this application
Install the unchrome application
Now your chrome installation is anonymized
