Personal branding has been one of the biggest trends in 2009 and one that is probably to play an indispensable role in 2010. Yet, even as everyone agrees on its importance and that it is fast growing, very few people could actually master the art. Most people mistake personal branding as to build better product, but it is actually to build better perception of yours among others. That’s because when you are online, your presence is important and people will judge accordingly whether you like it or not. So you really need to care about other’s perception about you as a brand. And most people also think personal branding is difficult, but if you believe in your skills and ability – it becomes easier for you to sell your brand. The basis of personal branding is that success doesn’t come from personal development or hard work. Instead, personal branding proponents claim that success comes from self-packaging with needed skills.

First everyone should understand that personal branding is just not a buzz word or a way for self-promotion today. It is process by which we can market ourselves to other and this can be done not only by famous celebrities, but also by every individual online. In other words, your personal brand is who you are, what you do, and your leading quality in the eyes of your ideal target market. Through social networks or social media you can get in touch with tons of people and this network will help you build your brand. Today there are ton of social media tools available to help you achieve incredible heights in no time and each one should understand the process to master it. With that in mind, honeytechblog today shares Top 10 Things To Do To Master Personal Branding to achieve your desirable success.

1. Select Niche

Personal brand in nutshell, is nothing but who you are and so it becomes important for you to select a niche for your persona. To separate yourself from the rest of the crowd, create your own niche that increases your visibility and preserve your reputation. Your selected niche should involve the application of one’s name to various products. For example, celebrity real-estate mogul Donald Trump uses his last name extensively on his buildings and on the products he endorses (e.g., Trump Steaks). When branding yourself bear in mind that you must create a strong and reliable brand.

2. Identify Your Positives

Never be weak at your mission, you need to build up goals that can be achieved in a particular time. And for that you need to identify your positives and forget what is negative. Set up you goals and write down your mission statement along with a development plan on how to go about. Your statement must tell everyone what you do and who you serve. Note down some inborn skills that match up to your personal mission. Perfect, cultivate and grow these talents to move ahead.

3. Be Precise and Clear

It is obvious that you want all the business you can possibly get your hands on but that is not how to grow a strong and reliable for long time. You need to specialize. You cannot certainly be all things to all people. You must be precise and clear about that one particular niche that will serve your audience neatly. Don’t run behind ten different things and lose your precious clients. Accept the fact, if you might be good at one particular thing and perform that well, so that you never miss any opportunity to grab your audience. It is ok to be narrowed down than to be dumped.

4. Establish Yourself In Chosen Niche

The key to productively branding yourself and doing it successfully is to first establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. Once you have done that concentrate on who you are and what you stand for within your selected niche. Your next step will be getting the word out through a variety of social media channels that are viewed by the people most likely to be interested in your message.

5. Let People Locate You Easily

Now that you established in your niche, you should allow people to locate you easily. Create social profiles at Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, blogs and more, so that you are spread all over, so audience can locate you easily. But make sure you maintain your social profiles, otherwise your whole brand can go for a toss. Use business cards and email letters to strength your brand identity. Highlight your personal brand message with professional marketing communications tools. Every email message gives you a direct chance to connect your personal brand with a new company or individual.

6. Build Your Reputation

Building strong reputation is the most important thing you could do to maintain your brand. Create your own personal branding website with your domain name, so that when web surfers and other employers search your name, they get information about your career history, personal information and educations qualifications. Build a solid personal brand with online activities which will further promote your personal mission and emphasize your career success optimistically.

7. Explore Your Audience

Audience is what we need the most to build up personal brands, they are the people that would pay attention to your work and also spread the good work around. So if you trying yourself to wrong hands, and then certainly it will be a waste of time. You must locate what consumers and companies will be interested in what you have to offer. Your audience should be your niche group of people and you must try by all means to give them as much value as you can sooner or later.

8. Locate Your Competitor

This field today is too competitive to rest on your laurels. You should make sure that your name remains in consumers mind when they need you, may be in next six month or later. You cannot assume that they would remain your loyal buyers if you fail to keep your relationship current with them and your competitors will grab your buyer. So locate who is your competitor and stay ahead of them without trying to break their status.

9. Monitor Your Brand

A personal brand is just like an exotic sports car, where you cannot afford to let it run at top speed without any maintenance. If you do so, it would burn itself up. Likewise, in personal branding you got to regularly monitor your brand to keep it relevant, alert, emotionally connected with audience and to be different from the competitor. It is all about seizing every opportunity to meet someone new and maintain the pace with it.

10. Content Is Still The King

People enjoy reading fresh and relevant content, which is unique or in some way special to them. So to do this, you should customize your pitch to fit their preferences. Using social media – Twitter, Facebook or Social bookmarking sites, you can spread your information online and make connection with like-minded people. Write articles and blogs that can augment audience’s knowledge about your brand in the industry.

Of course the most important factor here is trust! You must build trust with your audience, just think about service provider in your own life – be it your manager, your hair stylist or your account – all get your business because they carry good relationship with you, and that counts in so far as the service they provide. Try building personal rapport with the things you and your audience have in common. Bottom line is trust; your consumer/buyer must trust you emphatically!

Have a link where customers can get the website in the form of an eBook. This makes you more accessible to them. Or if you are into direct mail, include a DVD or a CD of your site in the package. This ca be given away by the recipient of the package and can increase your sales.

Make the eBook easily accessible and transferable. This can help your loyal customers distribute it quicker and easier, too.

Conduct a market research based on the contact information visitors give in your website. This will help you identify the markets you are not so strong on, and you can focus on them more.

Increase the number of people visiting your site for advertisement purposes by offering a place in your website directory. This can be used as advertisement space and you can even charge the people who will use it.

Take care of your customers and give them monthly eBooks or newsletters. This will let them feel pampered and remembered. You can place new products by the end of the newsletter to keep customer coming back for more.

Last night, a friend of mine asked me if there is any way we can disable Windows annoying startup sound and if you are also one of those people looking for a way to disable the startup sound in Windows, than follow some simple steps below in order to disable Windows startup sound.

Step 1. Open Control Panel by typing Control Panel in Start Menu search or by going to Start Menu > Control Panel.

Step 2. Click on Sound icon to open sound settings

Step 3. Go to Sounds tab and uncheck “Play windows Startup Sound”. Click OK and you are done.

This will disable Windows startup sound. I tested this on Windows 7 and it will also work with Windows Vista.

You may have came across a situation when you try to delete a file and Windows does not allow you to do that. You might get a pop up saying “file might be in use or is not deletable”.

Actually, locked files are one which is locked by explorer.exe process, which prevents you from deleting the file. In many situations, it is advisable not to touch those files because they might be useful for proper working of your system. But if you know that it’s not, you may follow this step by step guide to delete that file.

1. Open Command Prompt by typing cmd in the Start Menu search field and hitting the “Enter” button. Keep it open.

When you are surfing the web, you may come across certain websites that does not allow you to perform right click to copy text or any images. This is mostly done to prevent other users from copying or stealing their work. There are two ways you can enable right click option on a webpage; one is a javascript and other is a Firefox add-on which enables right click options. I will start with the Firefox add-on first and will discuss the javascript option later.

Enable Right Click in Firefox Using RightToClick:

1. First of all, download and install RightToClick. Once the add-on is installed you will see a golden pointer at the lower right corner of Firefox and also right next to the address bar.

2. When you visit any website which has disabled right click options, click on the mouse pointer and it will enable the right click options on that page. The pointer will turn green as shown below.

3. You can access advanced option either by right clicking on the mouse icon or by going to Tools > Addons and then going to options of RightToClick.

If you know any other extension or add-on that performs the same feature, please share with us.

Download RightToClick

A technical writer is often referred to with different names within and outside the IT industry. Some companies refer to them as Technical Communicator, Information Developer, Data Development Engineer, and Technical Documentation Specialist. In essence they are writers that simplify complex technical information to simple and understandable sentences that their particular audiences may comprehend. In other words they make complex technology accessible to the common man. On the other hand to master technical writing, one needs to learn and understand the topic, audience and basics of solid non-fictional writing. Following are the top 10 tips for technical writers to master technical writing.

Simplify:

One can never emphasis enough the importance of simplifying in technical writing. The main purpose of technical language is to make information accessible to people that do not have command over technology. Therefore, it becomes of prime importance that the language is simple and easy to understand. Also, that the information is communicated in short sentences.

Knowledge of audience:

This again cannot be emphasized enough. Though the technical writer’s job is to make information simple, it is very important that the user who uses the product does not get talked down to. Meaning, if the product is for the use of technically sound professionals the details in the documentation must also suit their level of understanding of the technology in the product and its operation.

Strength over language:

A command over the language is very important for technical writers. Since their profession involves extensive writing, they must have the ability to simplify complex behaviors using simple and grammatically correct sentences.

Eye for detail:

A technical writer must be critical of his/her writing and must ensure that errors are minimal and details are not missed. Additionally, in many companies a technical writer is also expected to review documents written by other writers, developers, and testers. In such scenarios, wearing a editor’s hat, the technical writer must be able to spot errors as easily as she/he writes.

Communication:

An important part of a technical writer’s job is to collect the relevant information on the product. This means that the technical writer must communicate with developers, testers, and program managers to collect their information. Therefore, an important quality for technical writers is their communication skills. Additionally, they may also have to provide inputs on the product from a usability perspective. While providing criticism or enhancement suggestions to people, technical writers must be cautious to provide feedback in a positive way. This also is of prime importance.

Time management:

In many companies, technical writing is not yet included in the product development life cycle (technical writers’ hope that this will soon change with changing times). However, the deliverables in terms of product documentation development runs parallel to product development. This means that though documentation is not included in the process, the time available to create the document remains the same. This means that the technical writers must manage the time available to create, review, and validate their content.

Assertive:

As mentioned in the time management section, since in some companies the process of product development. Therefore, technical writers may sometimes be faced with the situation where enough information doesn’t reach them at appropriate times. In such scenarios it is important for a technical writer to be assertive and ensure that the information is provided within the stipulated deadline.

Process driven:

Technical writing is a fairly new profession. This means that many of the process in this industry have not yet accommodated technical writing processes into their product building mechanism. This is why the technical writer must research and assert a process within the organization to ensure that technical writers are included in the process and reviews and deadlines are processed to ensure that documentation development is conducted smoothly.

Usability focus:

A technical writer is in some ways the midpoint between a product and its users. In the sense that they see and interpret the product in the same way as the end user. It is therefore vital that they have a sense of how usable a product it and provide feedback from time to time on the products to developers and testers.

Adaptability and flexibility:

When you press the windows key, it will open the Start menu minimizing any full screen program or game running. It can be very annoying if this happens while you are in middle of some game or work. Like, when I used to play Warcraft 3 (Dota) and it is really annoying if I accidently press the windows key rather than the hotkey I wish to use.

So, I decided to disable it. You can disable it easily by using a registry hack. Before proceeding, make sure you make a backup of your registry. If you don’t know how to make a backup of your registry, follow the simple steps below:

How to make a backup of your registry

1. Open Start Menu, type regedit and press Enter. This will open registry editor.

2. Go to File > Export and select the destination folder. Also change Export Range to All so it makes a backup of the complete registry.

3. Change Export Range to All so it makes a backup of the complete registry.

4. And you are done. Let’s proceed on how to disable the windows key.

How to Disable Windows Key

1. Open Registry Editor by typing regedit in Start Menu search and press enter.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control.

3. Expand Control folder and open Keyboard Layout folder.

4. Look for this entry “ Scancode Map” and if it doesn’t exist, create a new binary key with this name. To create, On the Edit menu, click Add Value, type in Scancode Map, click REG_BINARY as the Data Type, and then click OK. Or Right Click > New > Binary Value and change name to Scancode Map.

5. Right Click on the key and select Modify. Type 00000000000000000300000000005BE000005CE000000000 and hit Enter.

6. Close the registry editor and restart your computer. Now, you have successfully disabled the window key.

In order to enable it again, follow steps 2 and 3, delete the Scancode Map entry and close the registry editor. It will enable windows key again.

I made this tutorial on Windows 7 but this will work with Windows Vista as well.
Again, I would recommend you to make backup of you registry before trying any registry hack. I wont be held responsible if you mess up your registry.
