Personal branding has been one of the biggest trends in 2009 and one that is probably to play an indispensable role in 2010. Yet, even as everyone agrees on its importance and that it is fast growing, very few people could actually master the art. Most people mistake personal branding as to build better product, but it is actually to build better perception of yours among others. That’s because when you are online, your presence is important and people will judge accordingly whether you like it or not. So you really need to care about other’s perception about you as a brand. And most people also think personal branding is difficult, but if you believe in your skills and ability – it becomes easier for you to sell your brand. The basis of personal branding is that success doesn’t come from personal development or hard work. Instead, personal branding proponents claim that success comes from self-packaging with needed skills.

First everyone should understand that personal branding is just not a buzz word or a way for self-promotion today. It is process by which we can market ourselves to other and this can be done not only by famous celebrities, but also by every individual online. In other words, your personal brand is who you are, what you do, and your leading quality in the eyes of your ideal target market. Through social networks or social media you can get in touch with tons of people and this network will help you build your brand. Today there are ton of social media tools available to help you achieve incredible heights in no time and each one should understand the process to master it. With that in mind, honeytechblog today shares Top 10 Things To Do To Master Personal Branding to achieve your desirable success.

1. Select Niche

Personal brand in nutshell, is nothing but who you are and so it becomes important for you to select a niche for your persona. To separate yourself from the rest of the crowd, create your own niche that increases your visibility and preserve your reputation. Your selected niche should involve the application of one’s name to various products. For example, celebrity real-estate mogul Donald Trump uses his last name extensively on his buildings and on the products he endorses (e.g., Trump Steaks). When branding yourself bear in mind that you must create a strong and reliable brand.

2. Identify Your Positives

Never be weak at your mission, you need to build up goals that can be achieved in a particular time. And for that you need to identify your positives and forget what is negative. Set up you goals and write down your mission statement along with a development plan on how to go about. Your statement must tell everyone what you do and who you serve. Note down some inborn skills that match up to your personal mission. Perfect, cultivate and grow these talents to move ahead.

3. Be Precise and Clear

It is obvious that you want all the business you can possibly get your hands on but that is not how to grow a strong and reliable for long time. You need to specialize. You cannot certainly be all things to all people. You must be precise and clear about that one particular niche that will serve your audience neatly. Don’t run behind ten different things and lose your precious clients. Accept the fact, if you might be good at one particular thing and perform that well, so that you never miss any opportunity to grab your audience. It is ok to be narrowed down than to be dumped.

4. Establish Yourself In Chosen Niche

The key to productively branding yourself and doing it successfully is to first establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. Once you have done that concentrate on who you are and what you stand for within your selected niche. Your next step will be getting the word out through a variety of social media channels that are viewed by the people most likely to be interested in your message.

5. Let People Locate You Easily

Now that you established in your niche, you should allow people to locate you easily. Create social profiles at Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, blogs and more, so that you are spread all over, so audience can locate you easily. But make sure you maintain your social profiles, otherwise your whole brand can go for a toss. Use business cards and email letters to strength your brand identity. Highlight your personal brand message with professional marketing communications tools. Every email message gives you a direct chance to connect your personal brand with a new company or individual.

6. Build Your Reputation

Building strong reputation is the most important thing you could do to maintain your brand. Create your own personal branding website with your domain name, so that when web surfers and other employers search your name, they get information about your career history, personal information and educations qualifications. Build a solid personal brand with online activities which will further promote your personal mission and emphasize your career success optimistically.

7. Explore Your Audience

Audience is what we need the most to build up personal brands, they are the people that would pay attention to your work and also spread the good work around. So if you trying yourself to wrong hands, and then certainly it will be a waste of time. You must locate what consumers and companies will be interested in what you have to offer. Your audience should be your niche group of people and you must try by all means to give them as much value as you can sooner or later.

8. Locate Your Competitor

This field today is too competitive to rest on your laurels. You should make sure that your name remains in consumers mind when they need you, may be in next six month or later. You cannot assume that they would remain your loyal buyers if you fail to keep your relationship current with them and your competitors will grab your buyer. So locate who is your competitor and stay ahead of them without trying to break their status.

9. Monitor Your Brand

A personal brand is just like an exotic sports car, where you cannot afford to let it run at top speed without any maintenance. If you do so, it would burn itself up. Likewise, in personal branding you got to regularly monitor your brand to keep it relevant, alert, emotionally connected with audience and to be different from the competitor. It is all about seizing every opportunity to meet someone new and maintain the pace with it.

10. Content Is Still The King

People enjoy reading fresh and relevant content, which is unique or in some way special to them. So to do this, you should customize your pitch to fit their preferences. Using social media – Twitter, Facebook or Social bookmarking sites, you can spread your information online and make connection with like-minded people. Write articles and blogs that can augment audience’s knowledge about your brand in the industry.

Of course the most important factor here is trust! You must build trust with your audience, just think about service provider in your own life – be it your manager, your hair stylist or your account – all get your business because they carry good relationship with you, and that counts in so far as the service they provide. Try building personal rapport with the things you and your audience have in common. Bottom line is trust; your consumer/buyer must trust you emphatically!

Have a link where customers can get the website in the form of an eBook. This makes you more accessible to them. Or if you are into direct mail, include a DVD or a CD of your site in the package. This ca be given away by the recipient of the package and can increase your sales.

In this book, Joel cites such success stories as Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library, who transformed his parents’ New Jersey liquor store from a $4 million business to a $45 million one in five years by connecting to Facebook and Twitter and creating a video podcast to lure customers. Joel has created an eminently readable guide to harnessing the various tools available across the virtual landscape. You can buy this book for $17.81.

9. The Social Media Bible by Lon Safko

Using the systematic approach presented in this comprehensive guide, you’ll learn how to: Increase your company and brand value by engaging people in new forms of communication, collaboration, education, and entertainment Determine which social media tactics you should be using with your customers and employees Evaluate and categorize the tools and applications that constitute the rapidly evolving social media ecosystem and many likes.
10. Grown Up Digital by Don Tapscott

This book was selected as the best business book of 2008 by Economist. Bottom line of the book is if you understand the Net Generation, you will understand the future. A fascinating inside look at the Net Generation, Grown Up Digital is inspired by a $4 million private research study. New York Times bestselling author Don Tapscott has surveyed more than 11,000 young people. Instead of a bunch of spoiled “screenagers” with short attention spans and zero social skills, he discovered a remarkably bright community which has developed revolutionary new ways of thinking, interacting, working, and socializing. You can buy this book for $18.45

I would again say that there are many other great books on web 2.0 and social media, but these are top 10 covering anything and everything about the latter. Also feel free to leave comments on your favorite books on the topic and do follow me on Twitter

There is a new method of blogging recently taking the Internet by storm – micro-blogging. Instead of composing a few hundred words, busy people are putting their thoughts into 140 characters and letting the whole web know what they are up to at the moment. For ‘netizens who have adapted to the ADD (attention deficit disorder) reality of today’s wired world, these miniature “bloglets” meet their requirements perfectly.

Micro-blogging is also making inroads into Internet marketing and other e-commerce endeavors, as it has become one of the most popular ways to gather a huge following of prospective customers through micro-blogging tools like Twitter, Plurk, and Tumblr. Micro-blogging has come a long way from simple applications used as supplementary update platforms for users of social networking sites.

But what is the future of micro-blogging? Is it a momentary trend, or is it here to stay? Many people are of two minds. While most micro-blogging tools now allow transmission of pictures, graphics, and video, they don’t give followers the whole picture. They merely serve as teasers in a way.

Other people sing praises for the way these micro-blogging tools are increasingly being used to replace one of the most popular pastimes for singles on the web – online dating. It seems abbreviating the process has only made it more exciting. Added to the fact the using these tools are free, many micro-blogging fans are predicting that improved applications are on the way.

Whatever the future of micro-blogging brings, people who make use of it will ride its waves to the end.

AdExcel is set to revolutionize the Internet advertising industry by introducing several innovative new features that will make Ads sociable with its proprietary Social Performance Advertising technology. With AdExcel, contextual and display advertisements are now enabled with comments and rating system, social recommendation, social media to provide useful insights (e.g. related tweets from Twitter) and thus allowing Ads to take on a life of its own. Advertisers and publishers alike can gain real-time feedback on the likability of users on the ads.

For Advertisers, the ability to receive instantaneous feedback from users will minimize the risk of advertising campaigns being a flop. Advertisers will be able to immediately tweak campaign keywords upon knowing that ads might not be popular with users, thereby minimizing potential losses. The ability to receive user feedbacks will ultimately result in a more effective advertising campaign thereby increasing conversion rates and most importantly, increasing return of investment. With this feature, advertisers will not run the risk of advertising campaigns being a failure without knowing the reasons behind it. In fact, AdExcel adds some behavioral features that allow ads to self-learn relevant interests and add smart tags which will improve the campaign effectiveness. Instead of splurging on expensive consultants and ad managers, advertisers can optimize their ads on AdExcel for free.

Besides that, AdExcel is also introducing Metamorphic Social Ads where advertisers need to create just one advertising campaign, and allow the system to put in place various ad formats. This simplified process will allow advertisers to diversify the ads across various formats in minimal time.

As for Publishers and Network Builders, AdExcel is now providing white label services for free what used to be a feature available only to big websites for a large fee – a Personal Ad Network. With this option, publishers have an affiliate option through the customizable AdExcel P ersonal Ad Network Platform to promote their advertising solutions, and gain revenue bonuses for every advertiser and publisher who signs up.

Obviously, social networking is becoming more and more saturated. Evidence of this growing saturation is the declining number of new sign-ups on almost all social network sites.

The odd part is that more social media sites are going live almost every month so this contributes greatly to the declining number of new members on pioneering social networks. The future of social networking therefore is being closely examined by technology experts.Their are many questions like Will websites be the Social Networks of the future? or What is our personal saturation level for social media?

One of the biggest effects that may happen due to social networking saturation is the elimination of new players in the industry. Are we reaching the social media saturation point? this question popped up in my mind when i saw the spam invitations of so many websites in general public forums. New websites fetch the user emails and send them auto generated invitations to get more and more sign-ups. Pioneering and highly established social network sites have a large stable base of users so this is not their problem. For example if we talk about the Facebook then the majority of its users lies in the US but this social network is gradually shift over Asia with a scoop reach in India and near by country. On the other hand another popular social network like Orkut is massively popular in Brazil,Pakistan and in India. What the difference? The user interests are very fluctuating in nature and if we discuss it over specific area like India then we will find that users like celebrities, cricketers, musicians and others are now only on Facebook. Why not in Orkut ?

New players on the other hand are still struggling to reach even 1 million users. With slim user base, the only practical option for new social networking players is to drop out of the competition. Otherwise, they will remain in oblivion or will not be profitable enough which could force their owners to close shop. Established social networking sites meanwhile may experience a big drop in new sign-ups but this does not mean eventual demise for them. The most logical step for these social network sites to remain competitive is to provide more valuable applications that can be used by the enterprise.

Gone were the days when social networking was used primarily for entertainment and for growing personal online networks(a recent study also reveals that “Half Of Kiwi Teens Post Sensitive Info Online” ) . Today, businesses are using social networking as an important enterprise tool. These are the new power users of social networks and site owners should focus more on the needs and demands of their business users in order to survive.

Rww received emails rom IBM and IBM says, “IBM’s goal with My developerWorks is to connect the global community of software developers and make it easier for them to create new technologies based on open standards such as Java, Linux and XML. With $4 trillion in global economic stimulus investments on the way for projects such as healthcare modernization, smart grids, and public infrastructure improvements – all of it technology-driven – IBM wants to give developers a seat at the table and help them build skills in hot technology areas including analytic’s, clean tech, and cloud computing.”
