Top 7 reasons to say no to iphone 3G
Suppose you are in the examination hall,interview or with friends and their is a question “why should i don’t buy iphone?” then what would be your answer?.Every one talks about iphone 3G as a boon phone in the market but have you ever think about its core? Does its really cost $199? , Are you able to enjoy core values of phone in it? Before dragging your eyes downwards just think yourself on the above question.
Ok. i know you won’t stop so here is the 7 real reasons to avoid iPhone 3G:
- Lack of instant messaging : Yes MSN/Windows Live Chat, Google Talk, AIM, ICQ, Facebook are useless for you if you have iphone.It don’t have any inbuild IM Chat Client.So please buy iphone if you want to miss all that.
- You can’t stream music wirelessly from the iPhone to any supported Bluetooth headsets due to lack of support for Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP). (see comments for details)
- Flash doesn’t work : Apple iphone doesn’t have adobe flash player installed so you can’t view flash enabled websites.So enjoy iphone if you want to miss your games and applications build on flash.
- Apple may track you: With its licensing and GPS application iPhone may exposes your whereabouts and provides ways for others to track you without your knowledge.
- iphone doesn’t play patent and DRM free music: Yes its true iphone only players mp3 and AAC formats it don’t have any support for patent and DRM free formats like Ogg Vorbis and Theora.So enjoy iphone if you aren’t aware of this and this is not in your business.
- Lack of “Cut and Paste” feature: The best feature of iphone is to copy and paste long texts,sentences,phone no contacts etc.It will ease our work by many times that what we call “smartphone”.Iphone doesn’t have this feature so please go and enjoy your ride over iphone 3G if you want to miss this feature
- Same unupgrade camera: iphone 3g camera can’t cope shots in low-light and still have no flash.More over their isn’t any video recording capability either, even though this has been found on simple phones.You please enjoy your smartphone which can’t have basic features of simple phones.
- [Updated] Cost Of Iphone In india the cost of iphone is disclosed to be 22k INR onwards which quite enough to say it no.(You may go for it if price doesn’t matter to you)
Now some question are again unanswered like does iphone 3g cost $199? is it a good deal? or you are being fooled? Have you ever think that we have to sign a 2 year deal with a same network.So if we have to buy a iphone on $199 then we have to stick with ATnT and their incensed networks.Suppose we buyed the iphone and they change their network and calling rates.With a high rates does $199 deal is still good?
I just remember the Reliance scheme of “mobile in just 500 INR” offer in india.They issues the mobile phone just for $15 and lakhs of users purchased it but when they got hit by $$ of bills they got terrified.Hence do what ever you want to do but please enquiry about precautions before buying iphone.
Moreover,if you have and queries then feel free to discuss here

All the 7 reason are more than enough to not buy iPhone 3G, if the above mentioned features are provided by any other phone within this range.
So, please tell me if my budget is about $199. which handset will be best buy?

@Shwetketu

If you are ok with 2 year deal then iphone is ok for you in $199.
In indian market
less no of people bother about the facts but these are some hidden facts
I personally use HTC-Touch and found it cool,you may also go for “neo freerunner” if you want to develop open source applications,test electronics (embedded system)but both of them are quite cheap than $199 + 2year taxes.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I agree with Shwetketu, these 7 reasons are sufficient for not to buy an iphone.
But i will also like to add lack of ADDP support in Bluetooth i.e. lack of transferring data.

“lack of ADDP support in Bluetooth i.e. lack of transferring data”
@shitu
dude you are right..
in iphone you can enjoy the bluetooth ear phones, car kits and other devices.
Apple car kits are exclusive and its main aim is to make money just like “to buy applications” from apple store.
ie if you want that you have to buy that.

Honey, though I hate iPhone like the plague, but still wanted to correct a few things in the reasons you have given:
1. Free sw is no longer blocked. You can even get free apps from apple store now.
2. GPS Tracking cannot be done without ur knowledge. If any app tries to use GPS, iPhone will warn you and ask you whether you want to allow the app for this or not.
Shitu, its not ADDP but A2DP and it does not mean data transfer but it means stereo sound over bluetooth (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile).
Honey, it is not correct that BT on iPhone works only with apple headsets and car kits. You can use any third party headsets or carkits.

@Shantanu
>First of all thanks for such a nice corrections.
>I think only licensed devices can work with iphone as i said before.These third party devices are the one who purchased the license for building them.
found a opensource application for iphone

wow. i think someone’s expecting a tad too much from the iphone.
August 1st, 2008 at 1:46 am
I don’t think it will cost only $199 ….When i just heard about iphone coming India , i booked it with Airtel. I thought of selling my N73 to buy an iphone .But later when i had discussion with Airtel care they said that it will cost arround 16000/- to 22000/- …What the f**k is this actually ??. They said the in US AT&T is giving huge subsidies for their customers and its not gonna work in India ………………
August 1st, 2008 at 4:09 am
honey: All BT devices will work with, no special license required.
Jake: I don’t think he is expecting too much, infact these are the very “basic” requirements that one would expect from a normal phone these days, leave apart an expensive and supposedly “smart” phone like iPhone.
smartin: Even in US, the subsidies basically mean nothing because you have to be tied in with a 2 year overpriced contract, wherein the carrier recovers the money. My guess is that in India you’ll get the phone without a contract and unlocked so that you can use it with any carrier/any plan.

@Shwetketu
Thashan is not so long.Due to lack of knowledge most of guys go for it but when the market is overload with it then their will be no more thashan.
@smartin
I have to confirm that Airtel will cost iphone arround 16000/- to 22000/-?
Anybody else know the actual cost ?
August 1st, 2008 at 12:54 pm
@honey I don’t think the customer care is wrong ……..coz for a 8gb to 16gb phone with 2mp camera n Gps, i guess it will b sum wer mor than 199$ if they are nt looking for a long term contract….even for purchasing a Nokia N72 in India it will cost near 8000/-. So will they take a risk to give away iphone at 8000/- as ther are ppl who knws to unlock it …..
August 1st, 2008 at 4:57 pm
I’ll wait for Android to come out, and then find a phone maker that allows that. That’s a real open phone, it’s going to be for phones what Linux is for computers now.
August 1st, 2008 at 5:22 pm
@smartin

August 1st, 2008 at 5:41 pm
honey: didn’t understand ur reply..I already know about that..What did u mean to say?
fak3r: Android is not completely open. It has and will definitely have a lot of binary blobs..
August 1st, 2008 at 7:10 pm
@Shantanu

“”honey: All BT devices will work with, no special license required.”"
from that line i thought “All BT devices” so i posted all the supported devices.
Now,its ok coz you already know that and i take that in another way..

Another correction. iPhone does have instant messaging with sms feature. And flash sites work fine. Te connection is way slow, though. There’s a twitter app. too. The free apps are one of the best things about the phone. I own one and really love it. But I am a true mac fan. If you are a pc person, it won’t play as nicely with your computer. Stuff like iphoto, itunes, are just better with a mac computer (which btw are far superior to pc’s even tho I know there are a lot of pc lovers in India. In the US biz world too. But all the creative industries use mac.)
August 5th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
@rightbrain
Do like to pay for your 1000 lines conversations by sending sms? If yes, then you may consider its as a feature.
Normally chat clients are free of charge,you don’t have to pay extra for chatting but with sms feature i think every message will be under charge?
August 14th, 2008 at 2:49 am
SMS messaging feature is way off comes from days of nokia 1100, LOlz.
Anywaz, So what are the alternatives of iphone, apart from HTC and neophone
@shanatnu
AFAIK Android is a complete open framework, Correct me if i am wrong
August 14th, 2008 at 4:09 am
@Gaurav: Android is not a “complete” open framework whatever google might say because they have a lot of binary blobs in there for which source code is not, and will not be made, available.
August 14th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
@Gaurav
@Shantanu
I partially agree with @shantanu as per i know google says android is open source but they are not proving android SDK updates to open developers.Its accessible only to ndroid Developer Challenge (ADC) finalists under non-disclosure agreements.
source: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080715-googles-android-platform-not-so-open-after-all.html
Note:Google launch Android as a version 2 of the Apache Software License (ASL)which is approved by the Open Source Initiative, but it also offer’s commercial development and proprietary redistribution.
August 14th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
@honey: When I say Android is not fully open, it doesn’t have anything to do with the SDK updates being available to selective people etc. In the current SDK as well as the SDKs that will come out in future, there will be several parts which will be closed source.
