@honey: When I say Android is not fully open, it doesn't have anything to do with the SDK updates being available to selective people etc. In the current SDK as well as the SDKs that will come out in future, there will be several parts which will be closed source.
Source: First hand info from Google (not google search engine) and you-know-who. ;-)

@Gaurav
@Shantanu
I partially agree with @shantanu as per i know google says android is open source but they are not proving android SDK updates to open developers.Its accessible only to ndroid Developer Challenge (ADC) finalists under non-disclosure agreements.
source: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080715-googles-android-platform-not-so-open-after-all.html

Note:Google launch Android as a version 2 of the Apache Software License (ASL)which is approved by the Open Source Initiative, but it also offer's commercial development and proprietary redistribution.

@Gaurav: Android is not a "complete" open framework whatever google might say because they have a lot of binary blobs in there for which source code is not, and will not be made, available.

@rightbrain
Do like to pay for your 1000 lines conversations by sending sms? If yes, then you may consider its as a feature.
Normally chat clients are free of charge,you don't have to pay extra for chatting but with sms feature i think every message will be under charge?

Another correction. iPhone does have instant messaging with sms feature. And flash sites work fine. Te connection is way slow, though. There's a twitter app. too. The free apps are one of the best things about the phone. I own one and really love it. But I am a true mac fan. If you are a pc person, it won't play as nicely with your computer. Stuff like iphoto, itunes, are just better with a mac computer (which btw are far superior to pc's even tho I know there are a lot of pc lovers in India. In the US biz world too. But all the creative industries use mac.)

I'll wait for Android to come out, and then find a phone maker that allows that. That's a real open phone, it's going to be for phones what Linux is for computers now.
