Android is becoming the major backbone of gadgets(like smartphone, tablets and TV). In last eight months more than 100 gadgets launched in the market in which there are 30+ tablets (refer to Android tablet spreadsheet). If we talk about the design, most of the tablets in the market looks identical & have common operational UI. Recently Sony launched its Tablet S with a unique design and custom UI. The first question that popup into my mind was “why one should go for Sony Tablet S when there are so many options in the market?”

Here are some factors that differentiate the Sony Tablet S:

Design and Smoothness

Sony Tablet S is designed ergonomically to fit into your hand with a new base and makes it comfortable to use with reduced wrist strain. One can easily differentiate it from other tablets available in the market on the basis of design!
Sony Tablet S body dimensions are: 241.2 x 174.3 x 10.1-20.6 mm & its weight is 625g

On Air Firmware Upgrade

Almost 70% of android gadget users are worries about upgrading their firmwares including hassle of connecting it with the system. The most unique features of Sony Tablet S which differentiate it from the market is the on air firmware upgrade option!

Hardware

Yes, another factor is hardware of Sony Tablet S! It is powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor overclocked at 1GHz with 1GB RAM. Its 9.4″ TFT screen have resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and device is capable of 720p@30fps HD video recording. Its camera also have features like Touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection!

UI

The user interface of Sony Tablet is customized and have few extra features in layout and keyboards settings!

Sony Ericsson today announced that the Gingerbread update that they were making on Xperia™ X10 is working well, and is in the testing phase. They also said that the probably time for roll out will be the beginning of August.

The company has used user feedback to fix issues that currently exist. One of the issues that were fixed with user feedback, are issues related on the camera features not working efficiently. The blog confirmed that the company has fixed the Gingerbread version of the X10 software to retain the original camera UI in its Éclair version. Additionally, the new Facebook inside Xperia functionality will be part of the Xperia X10. They have also said, in their blog, that ‘the UI with the desktop layout and pinch-to-overview gesture will be similar’.

Some of the updates it has made to the latest version include:

Inclusion of Xperia arc

Inclusion of some Gingerbread features like Wi-Fi & USB tethering, App storage on SD-card

Inclusion of customizable horizontal app tray

Inclusion of the media experience widgets

Inclusion of integrated equalizer in the music player

Apps, like Adobe Flash, that require Android versions 2.2 or 2.3 will be downloadable from the Android Market.

However, DLNA will not be included as part of the August release. Also, the blog announced that XperiaTM X10 mini, mini pro and X8 will not be updated beyond the current Éclair version.

4. SpreadSheet

This versatile, XLS-compatible spreadsheet gives you 100 spreadsheet functions. They include searching, sorting, and formatting. You can also view, edit, and send attachments through other applications like Gmail.

Sometimes you are busy and unable to get time to read incoming message on your mobile phone, you can use Texty as a solution. Texty for Android in combination with Google Chrome extension turn your computer into a SMS gateway which makes sending and replying to text messages easy and quick without any pain/hassle. One of the best thing I like about this is that it does not offer you to connect to Wi-Fi automatically.

When you are using this app for first time, the extension automatically asks for your permission to sync contacts as soon as you log-in for first time. This app synchronizes all your contacts, incoming and outgoing SMS on web by using Chrome extension. Whenever you receive a SMS, the Chrome extension displays a pop-up which you can for a quick reply.

One of the disadvantage of this app is that it is available as a beta version in Android market place and to use this app you have to apply for beta invite first. To use this app you have to download both chrome extension and android app.

This app still lacks some features like an option to send text messages to multiple contacts, you can’t select contacts directly from contact lists. Texty is more than a app because it indirectly increases your productivity, saves lots of precious time while you are busy in working on computer.

Download Link for Texty

All you need to access music from your Android is a registered account with 4shared. If you don’t have one, it is easy enough to register for one and gain access to a lot of music.

To gain access to a whole range of songs:

1. Launch the application.

This displays the login screen.

2. Enter your 4shared credentials and login.

This displays the contents of your personal 4shared music directory called 4music.

3. You can do one of the following depending on what outcome you want

Tap the audio file to start streaming the song.

Hold down (long-clink) on the audio file to Rename, Delete, Add to playlist or Share over the web/social media.

Note: Sometimes, tracks are not accessible from the root of the director. This means that the files must be placed inside subdirectories or playlists.

From here, you can search for songs, create playlists, and access them from the home screen.
