How would you feel when you visit a website looking for information and it says – Loading – Please wait 10%, 50%…? Annoying? In fact nothing is more annoying for a website visitor than waiting for a 100K graphic to load when it actually has to be 10K. Huge flashy graphics and multimedia might make your website look nicer, but helps no way for a time savvy reader who comes to avail information on your site. In turn your visitor would click off immediately without looking at what you have to offer, although this is not your intention.

It is of course imperative to have a practically fast loading website so that your visitors are not left in a loop of waiting. Also remember that search engine algorithms do take your website loading time into consideration when pushing your ranking. Most likely, your visitors will come to your site for reading interesting and valuable content or to make a purchase, so why not make their visit enjoyable? Learn how to create a fast loading website with these 10 effective tips:

10 Effective Tips for a Fast-Loading Website

About Images and Graphics – We all know minimizing the usage of images can be a good deal for a fast-loading website, but what if it is not possible? Well, when designing templates, logos, buttons, and other necessary elements in Illustrator make sure they are created as vector images. As these images are big in size, turn them from CMYK to RGB and also ensure you decrease it to exact size that is required by your site. Remember resizing needs to be done only in Illustrator or Photoshop for quick loading. Make use of an excellent tool called GifBot that helps you shrinking your graphics right on a webpage quickly.

Make Most Out of CSS – CSS is a revolutionary tool for fast-loading website, actually many developers these days prefers designing the whole website using CSS. Just because it is a simple HTML code, it has an advantage of loading fast. However, working on CSS requires creativity, so make sure you try out different styles in CSS. Because CSS styles are in HTML, you would further save time and have the same unique effects you’re behind.

Example1: You can use CSS3 properties to give border radius instead of background images,

-webkit-border-radius: 5px;
-moz-border-radius: 5px;
border-radius: 5px;

Avoid “So-Called” Creative Stuffs – How about adding as flash movie or a dancing object to the website to impress visitors? I’m sorry but it a bad idea, your readers would only feel assaulted with these so-called creative stuffs. Using plain Html is best as too many fancy things that impress you might bog down the loading time and will cause visual overload to your visitor. It is best to make minimal usage of such objects or even better to avoid it.

Respect Your Site Content – Placing content wherever possible will leave your reader confused and lost. Your content is valuable and the most important element of the site, so it is ok if you have more to share, but it is bad to stuff them all at one place. Basically, long content pages will take long time to load. Hence, break them into different relative sections so that the size is minimized for each page. Give some room for your reader to breathe and enjoy surfing.

Know Your Backgrounds and Buttons – Using background images will only say your website is “amateur”, because no professional site make use of background images that distract the reader. The main problem is it will take longer time to load than the usual. The same holds true in case the site has end-number of buttons. Best is to optimize your button and background in Photoshop, if the loading time really matters to you. Use appropriate web colors for background and roll over buttons to help saving loading time.

Example: You can use css for gradient properties (Tip: use colorzilla gradient editor for generating css properties online)

background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, rgba(0,0,0,0.65) 0%, rgba(0,0,0,0) 100%); /* FF3.6+ */
background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%,rgba(0,0,0,0.65)), color-stop(100%,rgba(0,0,0,0))); /* Chrome,Safari4+ */
background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgba(0,0,0,0.65) 0%,rgba(0,0,0,0) 100%); /* Chrome10+,Safari5.1+ */
background: -o-linear-gradient(top, rgba(0,0,0,0.65) 0%,rgba(0,0,0,0) 100%); /* Opera 11.10+ */
background: -ms-linear-gradient(top, rgba(0,0,0,0.65) 0%,rgba(0,0,0,0) 100%); /* IE10+ */
background: linear-gradient(top, rgba(0,0,0,0.65) 0%,rgba(0,0,0,0) 100%); /* W3C */
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#a6000000', endColorstr='#00000000',GradientType=0 ); /* IE6-9 */

Turn Your Images Into Tables – These days’ tables can be an excellent alternative to graphics and images. It is a must to learn to make use of tables offered by the web design program as it will reduce the load time of site. You can definitely give an artistic feel just by making use of table with background color and cool text. Remember, the more you dig down HTML to create a website, the faster you will have your website load.

Chuck Down Animated Gifs – We have increasingly saw that a simple looking website gain more popularity than animated one. Why use Animated Gifs when we know that it can slow down the loading time? There might be lot of hype about animated gifs on site, but can give horrifying results when visitors come to you. You want your visitors to come and come again, so do it with simple and fast loading website. By all means attractive design and good content can drive traffic.

Useless and Repeated Pages – Do you need them? If not, then minimize your web pages with required information and make sure you don’t duplicate them. This is very important for saving time on site navigation. Point-to-Point information is always appreciated by people. We all love manageable sites, which helps easy navigation without getting bogged down. So ensure you take away all your useless and repeated pages.

Love HTML – If you looking to save time on loading then take care you design most of your site in HTML. There is always room for creativity and the best creativity is used when designing website with HTLM code. It will not only save time, but it is relatively easy to deal with. Make use of tables, colors, CSS styles, different fonts to create it. Also know that your website should be completely error free.

Keep Your Eye Open – So your site is ready, and the work is over? No, not really, you need to keep an eye open on your website and observe the pages often. Checking often will help you locate bugs (if any) and will improve it overall. Fix the error immediately if you come across any for over all good performance!

Personal branding has been one of the biggest trends in 2009 and one that is probably to play an indispensable role in 2010. Yet, even as everyone agrees on its importance and that it is fast growing, very few people could actually master the art. Most people mistake personal branding as to build better product, but it is actually to build better perception of yours among others. That’s because when you are online, your presence is important and people will judge accordingly whether you like it or not. So you really need to care about other’s perception about you as a brand. And most people also think personal branding is difficult, but if you believe in your skills and ability – it becomes easier for you to sell your brand. The basis of personal branding is that success doesn’t come from personal development or hard work. Instead, personal branding proponents claim that success comes from self-packaging with needed skills.

First everyone should understand that personal branding is just not a buzz word or a way for self-promotion today. It is process by which we can market ourselves to other and this can be done not only by famous celebrities, but also by every individual online. In other words, your personal brand is who you are, what you do, and your leading quality in the eyes of your ideal target market. Through social networks or social media you can get in touch with tons of people and this network will help you build your brand. Today there are ton of social media tools available to help you achieve incredible heights in no time and each one should understand the process to master it. With that in mind, honeytechblog today shares Top 10 Things To Do To Master Personal Branding to achieve your desirable success.

1. Select Niche

Personal brand in nutshell, is nothing but who you are and so it becomes important for you to select a niche for your persona. To separate yourself from the rest of the crowd, create your own niche that increases your visibility and preserve your reputation. Your selected niche should involve the application of one’s name to various products. For example, celebrity real-estate mogul Donald Trump uses his last name extensively on his buildings and on the products he endorses (e.g., Trump Steaks). When branding yourself bear in mind that you must create a strong and reliable brand.

2. Identify Your Positives

Never be weak at your mission, you need to build up goals that can be achieved in a particular time. And for that you need to identify your positives and forget what is negative. Set up you goals and write down your mission statement along with a development plan on how to go about. Your statement must tell everyone what you do and who you serve. Note down some inborn skills that match up to your personal mission. Perfect, cultivate and grow these talents to move ahead.

3. Be Precise and Clear

It is obvious that you want all the business you can possibly get your hands on but that is not how to grow a strong and reliable for long time. You need to specialize. You cannot certainly be all things to all people. You must be precise and clear about that one particular niche that will serve your audience neatly. Don’t run behind ten different things and lose your precious clients. Accept the fact, if you might be good at one particular thing and perform that well, so that you never miss any opportunity to grab your audience. It is ok to be narrowed down than to be dumped.

4. Establish Yourself In Chosen Niche

The key to productively branding yourself and doing it successfully is to first establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. Once you have done that concentrate on who you are and what you stand for within your selected niche. Your next step will be getting the word out through a variety of social media channels that are viewed by the people most likely to be interested in your message.

5. Let People Locate You Easily

Now that you established in your niche, you should allow people to locate you easily. Create social profiles at Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, blogs and more, so that you are spread all over, so audience can locate you easily. But make sure you maintain your social profiles, otherwise your whole brand can go for a toss. Use business cards and email letters to strength your brand identity. Highlight your personal brand message with professional marketing communications tools. Every email message gives you a direct chance to connect your personal brand with a new company or individual.

6. Build Your Reputation

Building strong reputation is the most important thing you could do to maintain your brand. Create your own personal branding website with your domain name, so that when web surfers and other employers search your name, they get information about your career history, personal information and educations qualifications. Build a solid personal brand with online activities which will further promote your personal mission and emphasize your career success optimistically.

7. Explore Your Audience

Audience is what we need the most to build up personal brands, they are the people that would pay attention to your work and also spread the good work around. So if you trying yourself to wrong hands, and then certainly it will be a waste of time. You must locate what consumers and companies will be interested in what you have to offer. Your audience should be your niche group of people and you must try by all means to give them as much value as you can sooner or later.

8. Locate Your Competitor

This field today is too competitive to rest on your laurels. You should make sure that your name remains in consumers mind when they need you, may be in next six month or later. You cannot assume that they would remain your loyal buyers if you fail to keep your relationship current with them and your competitors will grab your buyer. So locate who is your competitor and stay ahead of them without trying to break their status.

9. Monitor Your Brand

A personal brand is just like an exotic sports car, where you cannot afford to let it run at top speed without any maintenance. If you do so, it would burn itself up. Likewise, in personal branding you got to regularly monitor your brand to keep it relevant, alert, emotionally connected with audience and to be different from the competitor. It is all about seizing every opportunity to meet someone new and maintain the pace with it.

10. Content Is Still The King

People enjoy reading fresh and relevant content, which is unique or in some way special to them. So to do this, you should customize your pitch to fit their preferences. Using social media – Twitter, Facebook or Social bookmarking sites, you can spread your information online and make connection with like-minded people. Write articles and blogs that can augment audience’s knowledge about your brand in the industry.

Of course the most important factor here is trust! You must build trust with your audience, just think about service provider in your own life – be it your manager, your hair stylist or your account – all get your business because they carry good relationship with you, and that counts in so far as the service they provide. Try building personal rapport with the things you and your audience have in common. Bottom line is trust; your consumer/buyer must trust you emphatically!

Offer something for free for each purchase the customer makes. This always translated to value for money.

Create a referral system. Give a freebie to someone who can refer a certain number of e-mail addresses of people they can get to visit your site. This will help create a mailing list for you.

Most of you might have wondered if people are born leaders or they acquire the leadership skills. You can be gifted with certain leadership friendly traits in your personality, however, it’s best when you acquire the skills and fine tune them to your advantage. There is no fixed time in your life where you can believe that now is the right time for being a leader. By honing your leadership skills definitely gives you the required confidence and know-how to be a good leader. Some of the ways you can build your leadership skills are listed below:

1. Develop your decision making skills: Being a leader you will realise that you constantly have to make decisions and most of them are decisions to be made under pressure. So it is important that you develop your decision making skills in order to be an effective leader. As a leader, you will be completely aware of emotional factors, monetary, physical, statistical factors that will nevertheless influence your decision making ability. Leaders have the knowledge about the right time, right people, right resources, and right way to go about making decisions. By making note of the various situations that you have had to make a decision, what was the basis of your decisions, what were the implications of those decisions and so on, can be a learning experience for you as you strive to be a good leader.

2. Leveraging opportunities: When opportunity knocks on your door you need to be ready to grab it and make full use of it but leaders go a step further and find opportunities for themselves and their teams. They look for hidden opportunities and make them fruitful for them. They are capable of creating opportunities and ensure that they get the maximum benefit without increasing the effort thus optimizing the situation, people, space, time, or event to the best extent possible.

3. Developing problem solving skills: The word ‘leader’ itself in indicative that the main purpose of the person who is known as a leader is to ‘lead’. And a great extent of this skill is tested when faced with a problem or issue individually or as a team. A good leader not only has to be a good problem solver by exploring the problem fully, planning the method of addressing, generating or finding suitable solutions, weighing the pros and cons of each options and finally choosing the best possible solution and implementing it. Problem solving leaders know how to identify problems, how to address them and take the initiative in resolving even hidden issues before they become serious and big.

4. The right leadership style for the right situation: There are numerous leadership styles and they are suitable for different situations, people and time. The most primitive form of leadership is the autocratic style where you, as a leader, have full power over your team/department. The team follows your instructions and have no freedom or right to voice their opinions or suggestions. Bureaucratic leaders follow the rules of the trade to the T. Processes are usually mandatory and help in situations where safety measures or precautions are involved. People oriented leadership focus on developing, supporting, encouraging people. Whereas, task oriented leader assigns tasks, follows up on them closely till closure, set structures and practices in place to be followed to ensure the tasks are done. So, while there are varied styles of leading, choosing which style fits which situation, at what time and to whom are the key decisions a leader makes and ensures these decisions bring success.

5. Using emotional intelligence: Emotional intelligence in a leader helps him understand his/her emotions and also those of others. Leaders are self-aware and this means they know how they feel at all times and use this understanding by extending it to the team members too, they know how their words, thoughts or actions impact other people. Leaders have empathy and care for others’ feelings. They look for balancing emotions of their own as well as others’ while they strive to be a great leader. Being an emotionally intelligent leader brings you success and appreciation.

6. Flexibility and adaptability: You need to be prepared as a leader to expect unusual or unplanned situations and changes. Adapting yourself and your team members to changes makes it easier to move forward in the face of obstacles. By being flexible you become strong and able to meet challenges head on. Being open to new thoughts and suggestions, attending to unanticipated issues and formulating strategies that get you closer and achieve success is one of the core skills of a great leader.

7. Leadership across cultures: One of the impacts of globalization is that people across countries work with each other from their respective countries or by residing in another country. Since cultures differ greatly, it is only essential and natural that leaders understand the various cultures and be sensitive towards people working together coming from different cultures. This helps bring out the best in the team too. Symbols, languages, traditions and beliefs are some of the key aspects that a leader should look into and if necessary even adopt.

8. Authenticity: Leaders see themselves as adequate, strong, fair, intelligent, compassionate, ambitious, driven, and goal oriented. Crisp, precise and clarity in thought and communication, and ethical values make a good leader. Leadership is not an easy role and many a times leaders find themselves in tough situations where trusting another person/people is crucial to progress but indiscipline and betrayals make it harder to play this role with full justice. Leaders do not lose their authenticity in such situations. Positive outlook, motivating the team, leading by values are some of the key traits in a good leader and this comes by consistent practice.

9. Example leads: Positivity, trust and goodwill of the employees will grow and build strong when the leaders practice what they preach. If they prefer preaching but end up doing things exactly different from what they say, the team is disappointed and this would affect the work. By doing the right things a leader affirms the commitment to the people and the organization. This motivates and inspires others too and hence the success rate goes up.

10. Develop more leaders: A true leader understands the need for people to grow into leadership roles. A leader identifies potential leaders, guides them, nurtures them and strengthens them. They develop visions for the company as well the people and work towards making them a reality. Creating new leaders explores the strengths in people and adds value to themselves, other people and the organization. By developing leaders around you, you prepare the organization to meet and accept new challenges and achieve success.

Investing in your home is not a simple matter to think through. Purchasing costly items means that there will be a good deal of cash going out of the budget. The best thing to do when purchasing a pricey item like an HD Television is to make sure that the item is built with quality in order to yield the best and longest service time for the entire family.

Buying a best HDTV is pretty tricky stuff. Companies employ plenty of strategies ranging from misleading demos to very sneaky sales representatives. In just a matter of a few years, the television industry has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of developments. Not to mention, the prices of television sets have also dropped dramatically in the last three years.

To maximize the returns for your investment, here are 10 tips to guide you in buying the HD Television you always wanted.

1. Factor in Energy Consumption into the Equation

This is very important especially for couch potatoes, as energy consumption costs will be very significant in the long run. LED-backlit LCD TVs are the most energy efficient as compared to CCFL LCDs. Plasma TVs also eats up more power making it a very expensive choice.

2. Forget the Flat-screen Notions

Plasma and LCDs can be easily set apart before since the former would normally have cinematic capacities while the latter were smaller and relatively brighter. This distinction is not a good indicator in today’s technology especially in the 40 – 50-inch category because of advancements and innovation. Don’t be fooled by flat-screen display only.

3. Look for Movement in Still Pictures

Check if elements that should be still are moving like straight lines doing a jiggle or if brick walls wiggle in the screen. These issues are best observed in movies like Mission Impossible 3 and the Dark Knight.

4. Bring your Own Test Material

You’ll never really know the meaning of compatibility until you tried. A good suggestion is to try hooking up your Blu-ray Disc movie player using a HDMI cable. You also might want to try other input devices like flash drives, a netbook and camcorders. Persuade the salesperson and make sure you’ll get quality plays with your existing gadgets.

5. Observe Moving Pictures

Check if the sweeping movements allow for fixed shadows while panning. Are the details blurry? Again, plasma once ruled this dimension but recent advancements offer cheaper alternatives to plasma’s capacities found in LCD TVs.

6. Inspect Presets and Options

Most TVs come with preset brightness-contrast schemes for different purposes. Make sure these are flexible and could be adjusted to suit your taste.

7. Home-use Mode

You don’t want the showroom quality in your home so might as well check the mode that you’ll be utilizing the most. Showroom modes pump up brightness and color to attract people when you wouldn’t really need it at home.

8. No Animations for Test Runs

The main reason why manufacturers love animated videos is that they look good in almost everything. Go for the action movies you like. They’re less susceptible to hardcore editing making the demo more realistic.

9. Love the Skin

An indicator of good color, look at the skin of the people you see. The more realistic they are the better experience you will have.

10. Look and Listen

Even if they are stacked in rows of dozens of units, be sure to not completely rely on specs but to listen for yourself.

Last night, a friend of mine asked me if there is any way we can disable Windows annoying startup sound and if you are also one of those people looking for a way to disable the startup sound in Windows, than follow some simple steps below in order to disable Windows startup sound.

Step 1. Open Control Panel by typing Control Panel in Start Menu search or by going to Start Menu > Control Panel.

Step 2. Click on Sound icon to open sound settings

Step 3. Go to Sounds tab and uncheck “Play windows Startup Sound”. Click OK and you are done.

This will disable Windows startup sound. I tested this on Windows 7 and it will also work with Windows Vista.

There are some tools available online which allow users to manage CPU and Memory usage in Windows 7. But these tools and software may slow down you PC and in extreme cases; they may mess up you Windows.

In Windows 7, you can easily check the CPU usage with one click without installing any software using PowerShell feature. Windows PowerShell™ is a command-line shell and scripting language designed especially for system administration. To use this to feature to manage CPU usage, just follow the steps below:

First of all, you have to create the script which you can make easily in Notepad. But before that, make a new folder in C:\ and name it utils. Now open Notepad and paste the following code in it.

@echo off
Powershell -command “&{Get-WmiObject -Query ‘Select * from Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfProc_Process ‘| Select Name, @{Name=’CPU(p)’;Expression={$_.PercentProcessorTime}} | where {$_.’CPU(p)’ -gt 0 } |Sort ‘CPU(p)’ -descending | Format-Table -AutoSize;}”
Powershell -command “&{Get-Process | Select Name, @{Name=’CPU(s)’;Expression={$_.CPU}} | sort ‘CPU(s)’ -Descending | Select -First 5| Format-Table -AutoSize;}”
Powershell -noexit -command “&{Get-WmiObject -Query ‘Select * from Win32_OperatingSystem’ | Select FreePhysicalMemory | Format-Table -AutoSize;}”

Save this file as

“c: \ utils \ CheckMemoryCPU.bat”

Make sure you save it this way otherwise it will just create a text file.

Now, we have to create a shortcut for the script. To do that, right click on your desktop and go to New > Shortcut.

In the location field, locate the file “C:\Utils\CheckMemoryCPU.bat” and click Next.

Name it whatever you want. I named it CheckCPUMemory and click Finish. Now you can use it.

Once the icon is created, open it and it will show you something like this:

It shows you the total and idle process along with other process which are using memory. The second list shows other applications which are running and how much memory they are using.
