5 days ago twitter enables the Re-tweet functionality in few selected accounts but there were some issues so Retweet feature temporarily disabled by the twitter. After the continuous fixation/development of the work there were some reports of the missing “in reply to” links. Today twitter officially rolls that there will be a maintenance window Tuesday, November 17th at 11p Pacific.

Now when twitter rolls out the features of “Retweet to Share Tweets” on accounts then we get to know than why there was the maintenance today. (though i predicted that there might be server additions or any feature launch)

Now when you login through the web interface of twitter then you will notice the following status on the top of your homepage i.e “New! Retweet to share tweets (BETA)”

How to track the tweets by icons

Twitter has its specific icon for the re tweets. For example observe my following tweet and the recycle type icon on the start.

What is the official reaction of twitter?

In an official post by @Biz, (co-founder of Twitter) he described the importance of re tweet button and reasons for limited roll outs. He stated that:

Retweet is a button that makes forwarding a particularly interesting tweet to all your followers very easy. In turn, we hope interesting, newsworthy, or even just plain funny information will spread quickly through the network making its way efficiently to the people who want or need to know.

The plan is to see how it goes first with this small release. If it needs more work, then we’ll know right away. If things look good, we’ll proceed with releasing the feature in stages eventually arriving at 100%.

Now when you check your timeline then you will notice some strange tweets in your timeline. Don’t waste your brain in cross checking whether you follow that tweep or not. This is the simple addon feature introduced by the retweet and share options.

Twitter already know about the growing number of twitter applications and their innovative features. In a post hubspot released some New Data on Top Twitter Applications and Usage where they described that how do people use twitter and top applications used for tweeting. Conclusion: There are many twitter applications for business , top twitter applications according to usage and many top twitter clients according to stats reports but its great to know that official of twitter are rolling out some essential features in there default web client.

There are few UI issues on live accounts. For example observe the floating and css issues on the following screenshots

Finally the issue is resolved and its due to corrupted CSS files.

Note: Most of the people reported that they issues are due to the bad css load but they don’t observed the new features like Inbox, Sent, Retweets by Other, Retweets by you and Your tweets retweeted.

Conclusion: There were new features but due to stylesheet loading problem all things appears to wierd and messed up. Vitor Lorenco, product designer at Twitter also reported in his tweet about the css uploading issue. Many times we face similar css issues on sites due to corrupted css uploads. Might be twitter had an error in the connection due to which few data packets were loosed while uploading the files.

I recently checked my orkut profile and found a new bubble over it (this is the indication of  “New Orkut” on my profile ). I know that orkut is experimenting many things on “New orkut” but i think New Orkut follows the facebook.

Now every one knows that orkut is lagging behind rival social networking sites like Facebook and twitter. Facebook recently updated many features and adopt the basic functionality of twitter like status updates. Now Orkut follow the facebook and adopt the similar look but still lacks the synchronous status updates as in Facebook. Moreover Facebook enhanced with new applications, feeds features, different prototypes and most important the features of Publishing to Twitter from Facebook Pages. More over they have open api and lot of open option to build things on facebook. Is Orkut learning anything from Facebook? (perhaps yes !)

In order to fight back Google enhanced many features in new orkut but they seems to be cloning from facebook. Here i pointed out following two points:
1.New orkut have “Fewer pages, faster browsing” which is expected to be cloning of facebook lite (chek out the screen shots of facebook lite)

2. The targeted friend suggestions is expected to be cloning of facebook friends suggestions

What i liked in New Orkut?

In new orkut i liked the options to customize the profiles but still i’m missing the fanpage, FBML and applications of the facebook.

What i disliked in New Orkut?

I didn’t like the typography and UI of the new orkut as compare to previous versions. New Orkut is still in early phase and expected for the open api and better features.

Many users just rely upon Facebook to keep in touch with friends, family and work. Newer services like Twitter and FriendFeed are yet to reach many people. But of late we have seen many users complaining about their Facebook account getting deleted, so obviously all our valuable data are at risk. What if Facebook account gets deleted? And you wanted to have a backup of data elsewhere? With much advancement each day to Facebook it is still difficult to perform this task. But this problem gets solved for Firefox users.

A simple way to back up and achieve all your data is ArchiveFacebook. This is a free tool that allows you to save content from your Facebook account directly to your hard drive. If you are using any other browser then you will have to use extension by installing Firefox so as to backup data and it can be uninstalled later.

Currently ArchiveFacebook can save your:

• Photos
• Messages
• Activity Stream
• Friends List
• Notes
• Events
• Groups
• Info

All you need to do

• If you are Scrapbook Firefox Extension users then you would have to uninstall it as both cannot be run simultaneously
• Then get a Facebook vanity URL for your account as ArchiveFacebook does not work without it. Once you log in with username you are set for further.
• Now you can install Archive Facebook extension from your add-on gallery. Just visit the page and click on download.
• Once the installation is done you should see a new menu item “ArchiveFB” in Firefox between the Bookmarks and the Tools menu.
• Select ArchiveFB –> Archive from the main menu.
• Have patients. It will take several minutes to an hour to archive your account depending on the amount of content to be archived.
• When the archiving has completed, you will see a “Facebook” menu option added to the ArchiveFacebook menu. Select this option to view your archived account.

ArchiveFB will store your Facebook date copy within your browser Firefox; you can find ArchiveFB folder automatically generated in your browser profile folder where your data is stored. In case you use different browser then go to Tools > Options > Organize tab and specify the location where you needs the data to be stored. You might have also tried SocialSafe that offers the similar service at $2.99, however ArchiveFacebook is a better option because it is free of cost and can be used right from your browse.

Firefox has always impressed it’s user with add-ons and this is certainly a great addition, go give it a try now and back up all your imperative data!
