Starting today, we will change the core function of orkut so we can share and interact with different groups of friends on the Internet just like we do in real life.

We all maintain different groups of friends (or ‘social circles’), and the Internet was not able to reflect that. Until now, social networks treated people from different groups like they were all the same: they were all ‘friends’,” he added.

The idea of separating friends in groups came up in a research paper done by Google which was circulated in the company. Google believe that there should be a need to create group of friends just like we have in real life. One would certainly not want to share same things with family, friends, boss or best buddies.

Now, with Orkut, you could pack your friends into groups letting you to organize your social interactions on the site in a easier way. The way Google implemented the groups feature is rather flexible. One can make groups and assign their friends to any of them. These groups are only visible to the users that created them and they could further easily modify the groups and the settings, in addition to add and remove people from them. So, go ahead try out this interesting feature!

1.Remove Shyness

First tip of getting social is removing shyness from your end. Never be shy in any matters and see the crystal results.

2.Eye Contact

Make an eye contact.  First of all to be social you need to have self-confidence. Without this virtue, you will not be able to believe in yourself

3.Conversation

Talk part in conversation with friends and relatives.  Try to talk to the people around you. To start with you can take part in conversations about subjects in which you are familiar with.  You can ask questions or tell jokes to become a part of the conversation.

4.Hang-in or Hang-out

You have to give your effort to become social. If you are alone at home, then try to give a call to your friends and relatives.  If they are free, you can ask them to come over to your place.

5.Interact

Try to mix up with others.  During office or school lunch hours you can sit with a group of your classmates and colleagues and have your lunch.  You can also ask them to share your lunch with them. To become social you need to interact with more than one or two friends

6.Talk About Our Self

We all love to talk about our self. You can ask people to tell something about themselves and share their experiences on a particular topic.  You can draw out their interests and ask further questions on them.  If they share their sorrows with you do sympathize with them. Moreover, if others ask you to speak about yourself do not hesitate to do so.  Rather share your experiences and interests with them.

7.Extra Curricular Activities

Take part in various competitions like sports, cultural or any competitions or probably one that you are already good at.

8.Party Animal

Do not turn down any invitation offer. If your friend has invited you for any party celebrations try to accept the offer. It is the best way to tell others that you like the company of others.  You can also invite others to your home.

9.Be An Optimistic

Try to be an optimistic.  People like to spend time with optimistic people rather than wasting time with so called pessimists who are always upset with this world.  You must try to find out ways to be happy and always be positive.

10.Genuine Compliment To Others

To begin the conversation you can always compliment people.  Irrespective of age, people like to get compliment. Moreover, it is also a great conversation-starter.

8. Location-based network to be seen

We recently saw Geotagging features rolled out by Twitter, but it is for limited basis as of now. And the company has seen huge subscriber for it, so the network is likely to grow. Location-based network will experience severe growth in 2010 for many purposes. These features will not only help the companies to locate right seeker, but will also help the end user in hitting the right bar. Foursquare and Gowalla will monetize their networks to a lucrative position faster if other network do not react fast in 2010.

In order to fight back Google enhanced many features in new orkut but they seems to be cloning from facebook. Here i pointed out following two points:
1.New orkut have “Fewer pages, faster browsing” which is expected to be cloning of facebook lite (chek out the screen shots of facebook lite)

What i liked in New Orkut?

In new orkut i liked the options to customize the profiles but still i’m missing the fanpage, FBML and applications of the facebook.

What i disliked in New Orkut?

I didn’t like the typography and UI of the new orkut as compare to previous versions. New Orkut is still in early phase and expected for the open api and better features.

The odd part is that more social media sites are going live almost every month so this contributes greatly to the declining number of new members on pioneering social networks. The future of social networking therefore is being closely examined by technology experts.Their are many questions like Will websites be the Social Networks of the future? or What is our personal saturation level for social media?

One of the biggest effects that may happen due to social networking saturation is the elimination of new players in the industry. Are we reaching the social media saturation point? this question popped up in my mind when i saw the spam invitations of so many websites in general public forums. New websites fetch the user emails and send them auto generated invitations to get more and more sign-ups. Pioneering and highly established social network sites have a large stable base of users so this is not their problem.For example if we talk about the Facebook then the majority of its users lies in the US but this social network is gradually shift over Asia with a scoop reach in India and near by country.On the other hand another popular social network like Orkut is massively popular in Brazil,Pakistan and in India. What the difference? The user interests are very fluctuating in nature and if we discuss it over specific area like India then we will find that users like celebrities,cricketers,musicians and others are now only on Facebook.Why not in Orkut ?

New players on the other hand are still struggling to reach even 1 million users. With slim user base, the only practical option for new social networking players is to drop out of the competition. Otherwise, they will remain in oblivion or will not be profitable enough which could force their owners to close shop. Established social networking sites meanwhile may experience a big drop in new sign-ups but this does not mean eventual demise for them. The most logical step for these social network sites to remain competitive is to provide more valuable applications that can be used by the enterprise.

Gone were the days when social networking was used primarily for entertainment and for growing personal online networks(a recent study also reveals that “Half Of Kiwi Teens Post Sensitive Info Online” ) . Today, businesses are using social networking as an important enterprise tool. These are the new power users of social networks and site owners should focus more on the needs and demands of their business users in order to survive.

About 2 years ago i wrote a post on “ACCESS ORKUT ON YOUR MOBILE“.Though number of people get a success login in orkut mobile but some are still facing problems.People use to comment on the article when they face any problems and this is the only reason why  i write this post for making things clear for my viewers and orkut mobile users.Now the questions is Why we face sign-in problems on orkut mobile? A simple answer to this common question is as follows:

• Make sure that your mobile device meets the minimum requirements to access orkut
• orkut passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure your mobile device isn’t locked on uppercase letters or lowercase letters. On most devices, you can set the text entry mode to all lowercase letters, and use the shift key to change the case. See your phone’s manual for details.
• Once you’ve checked your username and password, clear your mobile browser’s cache and cookies, and sign in to orkut again.
• Try signing in with ‘Remember Me’ box unchecked.

Note:

• If orkut still says your password is incorrect after you check your device’s settings, you may want to reset your password.
• If you’re still receiving error messages or experiencing difficulties, check out other troubleshooting options
